Migration Watch UK Press Comment on ONS Labour Market Statistics February 2016

February 17, 2016

Commenting on the Labour Market Statistics released today by the Office for National Statistics, Mr Alp Mehmet, Vice-Chairman of Migration Watch UK, said:

Around half of the increase in the number of people in work is accounted for by foreign nationals, over 200,000 of whom are from the EU. It is vitally important that the inflow of workers from the EU is brought down if there is to be any hope of bringing down overall net migration.

Note to Editors: The number of people working in the UK has increased by 532,000 in the year to Quarter 4 2015, of which 278,000 are UK nationals and 254,000 are non-UK nationals (52% UK and 48% non-UK). The number of EU nationals working in the UK has increased by 215,000 in the year to Quarter 4 2015.
