One of two survivors of the disaster in which at least 27 migrants drowned has claimed that they were passed between French and British emergency services as their dinghy sank.

Mohammad Khaled described how he saw fellow passengers drown one by one during the crossing of the Channel.

The group of about 33 migrants left a beach close to the main Kurdish migrant camp on the outskirts of Dunkirk coast about 9pm on Tuesday last week. Several hours into the crossing the boat started leaking and at between 2.15am to 2.45am the engine stopped working.
