Two people were arrested and six vehicles seized during a police operation to target 'cross-border crime' in the Hinckley and Bosworth area.

Officers focused on the A5 corridor, the surrounding villages and Hinckley town centre on the evening of Friday, June 4.

They seized six vehicles for having no insurance and arrested one person for alleged immigration offences.

A man was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving and possession with intent to supply drugs. Officers searched the vehicle and confiscated a quantity of what they believe to be an illegal substance.

They also searched the suspect's home and found further evidence relating to the production of class A drugs, police said.

Two people were also dealt with for cannabis possession.

Specialist officers from the roads policing unit helped with the operation, with automatic number plate recognition used by the team to identify people committing offences such as untaxed or uninsured vehicles.

In a separate countywide police operation in May targeting ‘county lines’ drug dealing, officers arrested 37 suspects in less than a week.

Vulnerable children and adults were also identified and 'safeguarded'.

The operation was part of ‘county lines intensification week’ which saw police forces across the UK seizing drugs, weapons and making arrests.

Class A and B drugs heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis were recovered as well as blank firing firearms and ammunition.
