Immigration police in France are monitoring networks of safe houses and believe an estimated 100 sophisticated people smuggling syndicates are targeting the UK, The Times can reveal.

The dismantling of the UK gang, thought to have made £1 million a month facilitating a “VIP” service, has shed light on the inner workings of scores more organised crime groups on the Continent offering specious guarantees of safe passage to the UK.

A senior investigator in France’s national immigration policing unit told The Times that he believed there were about 100 similar organised gangs offering Channel crossings, with many using safe houses to hide migrants while others are stashing speedboats prior to making attempts by sea.
