An extra 100,000 people will come to Britain every year if Turkey is allowed to join the European Union, the employment minister has warned.

Priti Patel said that there was a threat to Britain’s security from the prospect of Turkey joining the bloc, and attacked David Cameron’s “clear support” for its membership bid.

In the last ten days before the referendum, leaders of the Brexit campaign are determined to keep raising the prospect of Turkey joining the EU, despite Mr Cameron’s insistence yesterday that there was “no prospect” of the country winning membership for decades.
